Due to all the phone calls I have been getting for Blue Egg laying birds I just had to go out and do some research...
There are many hybrids available on the market that will have either Cream Legbar or Aruacana blood in them so that they will lay a blue egg. I was initially considering breeding some of these hybrids until I considered the ethics behind it.... If everyone did this there would be no pure breeds left so I decided on breeding Pure Cream Legbar.
The Cream Legbar is quite an old, and now a very rare breed in its true form, pure breed. They are listed on the RBST as VULNERABLE, partly due to the fact that blue egg layers have become very popular and therefore many large hatcheries are producing a hybrid of the Legbar which will lay the blue eggs but ARE NOT pure legbars. Sadly there are few decent Cream Legbar strains remaining. This is a very popular pure breed, highly sought after from our customers, which can only be good for the breed.
I took my Cream Legbar cockerel to Nantwich Show 2010 and was thrilled when he came 2nd in the Open Large Rare Breed class. He had some strong competition and I was thrilled with the result.
'Cream Legbar Hen'
They are great 'garden hens' and how lovely to have an original old pure breed hen in your flock not a modern substitution.
The Cream Legbar is one of the few autosexing breeds of poultry - this means that the chicks can be sexed at hatching. The dark chicks being female and the light chicks being Male.
I only have a trio of these birds at the moment and am hatching all the Cream Legbar eggs they provide me with, so please be patient as numbers will be limited at the moment. - Please see For Sale page for latest availability.
